BK (a.k.a. – Bendix King) Portable Radio Programming Information

Covers UHF models LPU, EPU, EPV, and VHF models LPH, LPI, EPH, and EPI:

Programming Preparations:

Items required:

  1. One LAA0701, or G/ECC cloning cable, or one LAA0700 programming plug.
  2. One fully charged battery or a battery eliminator connected to a fused 12vdc supply.
  3. The radio must have a working keypad.

Getting the radio into the programming mode:

Programming plug (LAA0700):

  1. Connect the programming plug into the side connector of the portable radio.
  2. Turn on the radio with its power source (charged battery or battery eliminator) connected.
  3. Adjust the squelch until white noise can be heard in the speaker.
  4. Press in the switch on the programming plug until the white noise is no longer heard in the speaker.
  5. Release the programming plug switch and immediately select the FNC or Function button on the keypad of the radio for about three seconds or until three dashes and ID are in the display.
  6. Enter the six-digit password for your radio. If it has not been altered, the factory code is 000000. Depending on the radio, when the correct password is entered the display will read “CH 00” or “PASS” and you are ready to program the radio.

Important Note: If you do not know the password for the radio you will not be able to program it through the keypad until it is obtained. The radio will have to be read using the LAA0725 programming cable and the model specific software in order to get the correct password. It can then be changed either through the software or the keypad.

Cloning Cable (LAA0700, or G/ECC):

  1. Connect the programming cable so that the end that has the switch on it is plugged into the side connector of the portable radio.
